Owen Sound Catholic District Secondary School

Client: Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board

Status: Planning Approvals

Location: 28th Avenue E, Owen Sound

Project Type: Education, Interior Design

Service: Architecture, Interior Design

Planned to replace the aging St. Mary’s Catholic High School, this three-storey Catholic secondary school will accommodate a growing population of 1,012 secondary students. Situated along the east edge Owen Sound, this school will support the growing city and anchor a new area of medium-density residential development.

The main building will include 23 general classrooms, as well as a ground floor that wraps around a central cafeteria/auditorium and houses administration and guidance, library, family studies, special education room, triple gymnasium, music room, and a chapel. The second floor supports spaces for visual arts, robotics, computer labs, and green industries. The third floor accommodates general science, biology, physics and chemistry.
A second building on the site holds automotive, construction, and manufacturing work shops.

In addition, SRM has led consultations with Saugeen Ojibway Nation, Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation and the Chippewas of Saugeen First Nation to understand and incorporate their requirements for a dedicated ceremony and multi-purpose space within the school.
